District 24 Background: District 24 is located in north-central Nebraska which touches portions of Polk, Butler, York, and Seward counties. Within District 24 are the cities of York, Seward, and Stromsburg. Senator Jana Hughes is seeking her second term.

Senator Jana Hughes is a Seward County native, engineer, educator, and community leader who grew up on a family farm in Goehner and earned an industrial engineering degree from Texas A&M University. After working in manufacturing and consulting, she became active in education and community service, serving on the Seward Public Schools Board of Education since 2018, chairing the Legacy Fund of Seward County's COVID relief efforts, and leading the Seward Junior Women's Club. A mother of three, Hughes has made education and the well-being of Nebraska's youth a central focus of her public service. In the Legislature, she serves as vice chair of the Education Committee and as a member of the Natural Resources Committee.

Dan Winter is a Seward resident and independent candidate who grew up in the small town of Bradshaw and studied anthropology at the University of Wyoming. Motivated by a belief that voters deserve choices and that local communities are best positioned to solve local problems, Winter is campaigning on education funding reform, property tax relief, and corporate tax policy changes. He has also emphasized the importance of early childhood education while seeking solutions to reduce the financial burden that school funding places on farmers, ranchers, and other Nebraska taxpayers.
