District 6 Background: District 6 spans across the center of Omaha, cutting off just before west Omaha. Machaela Cavanaugh is the current senator, but is unable to seek another term due to term limits. Patrick Leahy, 43, is an Omaha resident, CEO of First Star Recycling, and a U.S. Army Reserve officer. A former staff member for U.S. Senator Ben Nelson and past director of the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District Board, Leahy has been active in environmental and community organizations. Nate Ostdiek, 28, is an Omaha native, graduate student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and graduate assistant in political science.
