District 6 Background: District 6 spans across the center of Omaha, cutting off just before west Omaha. Machaela Cavanaugh is the current senator, but is unable to seek another term due to term limits. Patrick Leahy, 43, is an Omaha resident, CEO of First Star Recycling, and a U.S. Army Reserve officer. A former staff member for U.S. Senator Ben Nelson and past director of the Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District Board, Leahy has been active in environmental and community organizations. His legislative campaign focuses on lowering costs for working families, addressing workforce shortages, supporting public education, protecting natural resources, and preserving Nebraska's ballot initiative process.

Nate Ostdiek, 28, is an Omaha native, graduate student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and graduate assistant in political science. He has worked with organizations including Conservation Nebraska and Planned Parenthood and has been involved in advocacy efforts related to public education, minimum wage increases, medical cannabis, and abortion rights. His legislative campaign focuses on lowering the cost of living, strengthening public education, protecting civil rights, increasing government transparency, and addressing environmental issues such as water and air quality.
