LINCOLN — Nebraska Farm Bureau is remaining neutral in Nebraska’s 2026 governor’s race for now, a notable change from four years ago when the organization endorsed Jim Pillen during the Republican primary. Nebraska Farm Bureau President Mark McHargue told the Rural Radio Network on Thursday that the organization has surveyed its members but has not made an endorsement in the governor’s race.

“As of today, we’re neutral in the particular race,” McHargue told the Rural Radio Network. “We’re evaluating the race yet. We’ve surveyed our members, and we’re just trying to decipher that.” The comments come as Nebraska Farm Bureau announced its endorsements for the 2026 general election. The organization endorsed candidates in the U.S. Senate race, all three congressional districts, 12 Nebraska Legislature races and several statewide offices, but did not make an endorsement for governor. That stands in contrast to 2022.

Nebraska Farm Bureau endorsed Pillen on Feb. 1, 2022, months before the Republican gubernatorial primary. At the time, Farm Bureau said Pillen emerged as the “overwhelming consensus” choice following a grassroots process that included input from county Farm Bureau members across Nebraska. Pillen went on to win the Republican primary and the 2022 general election.
