LINCOLN— Legal Marijuana NOW Party candidate Mike Marvin will remain on Nebraska's U.S. Senate ballot after missing the deadline to withdraw from the race. Marvin has faced accusations of being a "plant" intended to help registered nonpartisan candidate Dan Osborn, though he has denied those claims. Former Democratic nominee Cindy Burbank, who dropped out shortly after Osborn qualified for the ballot, previously paid Marvin's filing fee.

Although the race officially includes three candidates, it is widely viewed as a contest between incumbent Republican Sen. Pete Ricketts and Dan Osborn. The campaign has attracted national attention due to allegations of candidate "plants," multiple lawsuits, and the possible emergence of two new political parties that could qualify candidates for the November 3 election if their petition signatures are verified.
