OMAHA— U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson campaigned in Omaha for Republican congressional candidate Brinker Harding, urging voters to keep Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District in Republican hands. Speaking at a campaign event highlighting the Trump-backed "One Big Beautiful Act," Johnson contrasted Republican policies with Democratic leadership and argued the 2026 midterm elections will be a choice between "common sense and crazy." Harding pledged to represent Republicans, Democrats and independents if elected.

Johnson's visit came just days after former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg campaigned in Omaha for Democratic nominee Denise Powell, underscoring the national attention on the competitive open-seat race following Rep. Don Bacon's retirement. The Powell campaign criticized Johnson's visit and tied Harding to the Trump administration, while Harding emphasized his record on the Omaha City Council. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
