LINCOLN— Gov. Jim Pillen said a special legislative session before the end of 2026 remains possible as he pushes for property tax reform. Pillen plans to prioritize the issue during the 2027 legislative session, despite Republicans losing their supermajority. If lawmakers fail to act in 2027, Pillen said he would pursue a ballot initiative in 2028. The debate comes as Nebraska faces a projected $1.2 billion budget shortfall over the next two years.
