LINCOLN— A new group called Save Nebraska Sports has launched a campaign opposing Nebraska’s two November ballot measures that would legalize and regulate online sports betting. The group includes State Auditor Mike Foley, State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg, former Husker football coach Ron Brown, and Nebraska Family Alliance Executive Director Nate Grasz. They argue that expanded online betting could harm the integrity of college sports and dispute supporters’ claims about the amount of property tax relief it would generate.

The measures are backed by Tax Relief Nebraska. Initiative Measure 440 would amend the Nebraska Constitution to permit online sports wagering through vendors associated with the state’s six licensed racetracks, while Initiative Measure 441 would establish the regulatory framework and require the Nebraska Racing and Gaming Commission to adopt regulations by June 1, 2027. Supporters argue legalization would keep wagering revenue in Nebraska and generate additional money for property tax relief; a report commissioned by the campaign estimated nearly $87 million in state tax revenue over five years, with 70% directed toward property tax credits. Both measures will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.
