OMAHA— Omaha has been selected as one of 14 cities nationwide to participate in a Bloomberg Philanthropies initiative aimed at expanding affordable housing, particularly accessory dwelling units (ADUs), also known as granny flats or in-law suites. The city will receive up to $750,000 in grant funding, along with technical assistance and guidance from cities with successful housing strategies. Omaha plans to use Austin, Texas, as a model to streamline permitting, encourage construction, and address housing shortages. City officials hope the program will at least double annual ADU production and expand affordable housing opportunities.
