OMAHA— Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has endorsed Democratic congressional candidate Denise Powell in Nebraska's 2nd Congressional District and plans to campaign with her in Omaha on July 14. Buttigieg praised Powell as a strong advocate for Nebraska families and said she would focus on lowering the cost of everyday expenses such as groceries and housing.

Powell, who won a crowded Democratic primary, will face Republican Brinker Harding in the November general election. Harding has been endorsed by President Donald Trump and supported by Nebraska's Republican elected officials, while Buttigieg's endorsement underscores the national attention on the competitive Omaha-area congressional race. Democrats have not held the seat since Brad Ashford was elected in 2014.
