Tensions flared this past Friday in the Natural Resources Committee hearing at the capitol. The committee was listening to testimony regarding LR125 that would look at Nebraska’s public power. The study will look at issues like wind farms, eminent domain power, and retail choice energy. OPPD attended the hearing and talked about private business that is lured to Nebraska with their low retail electric rates, specifically sighting Facebook receiving a new rate structure using only renewable wind energy. There were also multiple groups in attendance as well that were strongly opposed to retail choice, saying it would ultimately damage the ratepayers.
